The Rattlebone Band, based in Vancouver BC Canada, was formed in 2003 from the remnants of well-known local folk band Jiggery Pokery..
The sound is much the same – up-tempo jigs and reels, with the odd hornpipe and waltz thrown in – but with more of a focus on music for dancing rather than just listening. Having said that, we still perform for concerts.
While the bands strength is English ceilidh dance music, we also perform for English Country dances (ECD) and contra dances, and have performed up and down the west coast from Vancouver BC to San Francisco CA for a variety of events, from weddings to folk dances.
The Rattlebone Band currently comprises:
Graham Baldwin - melodeons, guitar
Brian Chisholm - guitar, banjo, mandolin
Gerry Forte - tuba, trombone
Bill MacLachlan - whistles, pipes, flute, mandolin
We often appear with various callers and singers (as In the photo above, where we're joined by Victoria-based caller John Erskine).
